My Interview with the Podcast Japan On the Record is Up!

After recently publishing an article that addressed the lack of political comedy in Japan I had the pleasure of being invited to do an interview on the podcast Japan On the Record. if you don’t know about Japan On the Record, it’s a great podcast which features interviews with a wide spectrum of researchers who study variety issues related to Japan. The guests hail from prestigious universities like Harvard, Columbia, NYU, MIT, Sophia, Michigan, Hawaii, and more. So of course I jumped at the chance to be on the show. The host Tristan Grunow and I talked about the impact of the death of comedian Shimura Ken to COVID-19 as well as the state of political comedy in Japan. It was a great experience and Tristan did a great job of editing the interview and adding clips of many of the comedians that I was referring to. Please take a listen and if you can, subscribe to the podcast. It’s really well done.
